Pressure reducing and metering stations

Natural gas is transported in pipelines at high pressure, and is generally used at low pressure; in order to reduce the transport pressure to the desired pressure, treatment systems called pressure reducing and metering systems are utilised, which perform various functions, including metering for taxation purposes whenever required.

Natural gas pressure reducing stations are normally comprised of the following functional units:

  • Filtration. These are normally used in natural gas pressure reduction station to protect heat exchangers, reduction valves, and metering systems when the gas flow drags solid particles (dry gas);
  • Preheating. Natural gas preheating systems serve to prevent the formation of hydrates during the pressure reduction phase and to guarantee the minimum temperature required for use;
  • Reduction. The pressure reduction phase constitutes the heart of the pressure reducing stations;
  • Metering. The metering systems are basically comprised of two main elements: a flow meter (the primary element), and a conversion system (flow computer and relative accessories);
  • Gas odorization. In the case of plants used to supply natural gas distribution networks, an odorizations system is normally installed, which serves to supplement the gas with a certain quantity of liquid odourant in proportion to the amount of gas passing through the flow meter.

CPL CONCORDIA has a technical office dedicated entirely to the Gas treatment Sector, which employs experts in process, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering design. In order to guarantee complete control and maximum product quality, CPL CONCORDIA manufactures all the equipment and systems that it designs in-house. The workshop, which features the latest production equipment and technologies, occupies a surface area of 3200 sq. m.

We are even capable of designing and supplying U-STAMP certified equipment.
